Zodiac: Director’s Cut
Paramount Home Entertainment
Released: 01/08/08
Review By: Ryan James

Picture Quality – 4/5
Audio Quality – 3.5/5
Special Features - 4/5
Overall – 3.75/5

Comments: For this release Paramount went with an AVC encode on to two HD30 discs. For the most part this transfer looks decent. The film grain is kept in check and the image is sharp. In many of the brighter/outdoors scenes the image "pops" and is very vibrant. Skin-tones were spot-on and I saw no hint of noise or macroblocking. I did see a slight bit of banding in some of the darker scenes, although YMMV.

As far as AQ goes, I listened using the Dolby Digital Plus (DD+) option and it sounded good. The Center Channel presented the dialog in a clear and powerful manner and the Left and Right Channels received consistent action. There was however very little use of The Surrounds or the LFE.

There is a second disc of Special Features, which are very solid. Here is what is included:

2 commentary tracks (featuring Director David Fincher)

Behind-the-Scenes Featurettes:

- Zodiac Deciphered: The Making of Zodiac

- Interviews with the Cast & Crew

- The Visual Effects of Zodiac

- Zodiac Evidence: Interviews with Real Life Survivors, Law Enforcement Officials and Zodiac Author Robert Graysmith

- Crime Scene Photos and Case Files

In conclusion this is a nice presentation and the movie was EXCELLENT! So if you are a fan of this film I can highly recommend this purchase.
