Comments: Fox did an EXCELLENT job with this transfer. This film is encoded using AVC on to a BD50 and used DTS-HD MA for sound. The colors are sharp and vivid and really "pop" off the screen. The film grain is minimal and I saw absolutely no noise or macroblocking. The nighttime scenes in this film, which there are many, were fantastic. I saw no noise whatsoever in these scenes. For a film of its age, this is a nice improvement over the DVD version of this film.
In-terms of audio quality I would say this was a great representation of what DTS-HD MA is capable of in an older film. The Surrounds were used frequently. The LFE too was used to perfection, albeit in a more discreet manner and helped create an encompassing effect in many scenes. The center channel is where this release excels. Dialog can be heard loud and clear, as if the characters of the film were in your living room with you.
This release has some great special features. We get the following:
Introduction by Oliver Stone
Audio Commentary by Director Oliver Stone
Documentary: "Greed Is Good"
Deleted Scenes with Optional Commentary by Oliver Stone
In conclusion, if you are a fan of this film, I can highly recommend this purchase as the story is solid, the picture and sound quality are top notch and this is a dramatic improvement over the DVD version of this film.
