Comments: First of all, I am a big fan of this film and the rest of the Tremors series. I was looking forward to watching this release and was very happy to receive it. Using a 1080p/VC-1 encode, the colors looked vibrant and the film looks very sharp. At first glance, I was simply enjoying the film as it has been many years since I had seen it. However it didn't take long until I started to see halo's around every object. Upon further watching, I noticed it wasn't just relegated to some scenes but it is persistent throughout. Universal studio's has come out with some high quality catalog titles however this is the first I have watched that had heavy amounts of "EE" or Edge Enhancement throughout the entire film. EE was used quite often on SD-DVD's to make the movies artificially look sharper on standard tube televisions. This practice should be eliminated when it comes to high definition which is why this great movie gets a low picture quality score even though there are great improvements over the SD-DVD.
Now where this HD-DVD really shines is in the excellent Dolby TrueHD 5.1 surround track which is at 48 kHz/ 16-Bit @ 2.5 Mbps. Your LFE's will get a workout and at times you will find yourself jumping at a worm attack. I could tell the sound engineers really did a great job with this movie.
The extra's in this movie are quite good, even though it is missing a director's commentary. There is a 53 minute video of the making of the film which is quite good. The only downside is it is not in HD.
I know I am being overly critical however if you are a fan of the film, this is a step up from the SD-DVD by far and I can recommend a rental or a purchase if you are a big fan like me of the series. You won't be dissapointed in the overall experience as long as you don't think about the halo's..
