Comments: Timecop is one of my all-time favorite movie's since it pitted Jean Claude Van-Damme sporting an 80's mullet and traveling thru time. I can't deny I have been really looking forward to this one and had hoped Universal had done a good job with this release.
At first glance, the HD-DVD menu screen is the same familiar Universal one which to me doesn't have much appeal at all since they all look the same. To me this is the least important aspect but I do prefer menu's to each have their own style as found in most all the Disney releases so far.
I glance over to see that there are no extras which was disappointing. I watch the entire film and was pleasantly surprised that the video was above average for a title of its age. Timecop is encoded using a 1080p/VC-1 transfer for the video. It is a grand improvement over the SD-DVD and puts to shame some even newer more recent releases from Universal. There is a lot of detail during close-ups and my wife is now a Van-Damme fan. Suffering a bit from a black crush which takes away detail during black scenes, the video will not disappoint if you are a fan of the film.
The soundtrack is a decent Dolby Digital-Plus 5.1 Surround at 1.5mbps however it really was the most disappointing aspect of this film since it lacked punch and felt like it was a much older film track.
I would highly recommend this film if you are a fan of the franchise or if you are a sci-fi nut that likes time travel movies like me. However there are no goodies at all in this release, not even a trailer or commentary which every HD-DVD/Blu-ray should have sincce there is plenty of space for it.
