Comments: This is one of the recent HDM releases that I have been most looking forward to watch as it was once of my favorites growing up. For this release MGM used an MPEG-2 encode on to a BD25 disc. This raised my eyebrows to say the least, as I was a bit skeptical about this.
The PQ of this release is average as compared to other HDM releases of its age. There was a fair amount of grain in the darker scenes, the occasional blip of film debris and also an occasional spot of digital noise. Flesh-tones were spot on as was the color accuracy.
Where this new release really takes off is with the new DTS-HD MA soundtrack. This movie has never sounded even close to as good as it sounds now. I was especially impressed with the use of The Surrounds and LFE. There was consistent use of these channels throughout the entire movie. Dialog is also presented to perfection in the Center Channel and the Left and Right Channels complete the overall encompassing effect.
This release is basically free of any Special Features with the exception of the original trailer. I will say this, if you are a fan of this film as I am and only have the DVD version at this time, the upgrade to the Blu-ray version is a no-brainer.
