Comments: My wife was asking for a "ladies movie" for us to watch for quite some time and lo and behold, Pride & Prejudice ends up on my doorstep. I have to say this, being an action junkie, this type of movie is not usually my cup of tea. However it turns out to not only be an enjoyable movie in and of itself, it also boasts one of HD-DVD's best audio and video transfer combinations for a new release in quite sometime. Pride & Prejudice features a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 surround sound track boasting 48 kHz/16-Bit@2.5 Mbps. Although the movie will not give your LFE's a workout, it does make you feel you are really sitting inside and outside as it creates a perfect ambiance for each setting. It is as if you are hearing all the intricate sounds occurring around you like rustling leaves and dinner table sounds which help immerse you in the scene. Now I have raved about the sound, and I can tell you the video is also surprisingly clean and sharp. This film boasts numerous 3D-like shots and beautiful colors. Leaves look real and the contrast ratio is excellent (black levels are natural). It is not perfect as there are scenes that fall flat and get soft, however every HD-DVD fan will be happy at the quality of this release. Where this disc fails is in the extras dept. which turned out to be in SD and was very short. Overall I give this movie a high score of 4 and recommend it as a date movie that will not disappoint. And if you are a guy who loves action movies and this isn't high up on the viewing list, I can relate. However look on the bright side, at least this will soften the blow for the next film you recommend ;).
