Miramax has announced
Smart People for Blu-ray on August 12th, 2008. This smaller indie type film features Dennis Quaid, Sarah Jessica Parker, Thomas Haden Church and Ellen Page of
Juno fame. Retail is set at $34.99, pre-order at Amazon
for only $23.95.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre has been freshly listed by Dark Sky Films, scheduled for a September 30th, 2008 release. This is the original Tobe Hooper version - will be interesting to see how a low budget film shot on 16mm Ektachrome translates to Blu-ray (don't expect miracles!). I think it is great though that Dark Sky are giving it a shot. Retail is set at $29.98, pre-order at Amazon
for only $20.95.
Nim's Island is planned for release August 5th, 2008 by Fox Home Entertainment. This kid flick featuring Abigail Breslin of
Little Miss Sunshine fame in the role of Nim, along with Jodie Foster and Gerard Butler from
300, generated a decent $46M at the domestic box office. Retail will be $39.98, the Amazon price -
only $27.95.
