Comments: Paramount did a solid job with this transfer. This film is encoded in AVC on to an HD30 disc. The colors are sharp and vivid and really "pop" off the screen. The film grain is minimal and I saw absolutely no noise or macroblocking. Many of this film’s outdoors scenes, especially during the daytime look STUNNING. The greens of the grass/trees and the blues of the sky explode off the screen. For a film of its age I am more then impressed. I saw very little to no difference between this video encode as compared to the Blu-ray version of this film.
In-terms of AQ I would say this was decent presentation of Dolby Digital Plus (DD+). The Surrounds were used nicely, but semi-frequently. The LFE however was not used much at all. The center channel is where this release excels. Dialog can now be heard loud and clear, of which this is a nice improvement over the DVD version of this film. As compared to the Blu-ray version of this film, which used a PCM 5.1 4.6 Mbps track, the DD+ track on this releases sounds slightly more flat to my ears.
This release also comes with an additional disc of Special Features. My favorite was a featurette titled: “The Light And Dark: Making Face/Off.” This was a nice behind the scenes look at the making of Face/Off. All of the Special Features are in HD as well. This new release of Face/Off is a nice improvement over its DVD counterpart and I can confidently recommend this purchase if you are a fan of this film.
