Comments: This HD DVD is presented in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio. Carlito's Way: Rise To Power has a lot of detail and very good black level. The colors are also nice with accurate fleshtones. I did have a few complaints which are mainly grain related. Once again artificial grain seems to be added in some scenes. This effect adds to much noise which makes the picture quality suffer. Edge enhancement also brings down the picture quality a notch. Other then those negatives the rest of the movie looks nice and clean. The Dolby TrueHD soundtrack is as good as it needs to be which is really not a bad thing. The narrator's voice is clear with good tonality. The title does have some nice fire power which sounds very good. Backgrounds get some work but when they do they sound good. Overall if you are a fan of the original then you will like this prequel. It is a hard story that will make you cringe more than once! You will also enjoy a nice picture with a nice matching soundtrack. Definitely worth a look.
