Comments: Being a huge fan of the Bourne series, I was extremely excited to throw “Ultimatum” in the old HD-DVD player.
This is another Universal HD30 release. I felt the picture quality was great, and most importantly, consistent. The colors were great as well, as one would expect from such a new production. They were vivid and uniform. At no time did I detect any noise or macro blocking. I was also impressed with the “smoothness” of the overall presentation. All in all a great PQ experience.
I listened using the Dolby TrueHD option. I really felt the sound quality was excellent. I would not rank it quite as high as lets say “Transformers” or “Hot Fuzz” but it was great nonetheless. The surround channels were popping all around me consistently and the LFE was booming throughout. The center channel also created an enveloping atmosphere with the dialog, which I felt, really enhanced the viewing experience. Again, I really feel this is one of the best examples of proper surround sound.
This release is somewhat sparse of Special Features. Here is what is included:
Audio Commentary With Director Paul Greengrass.
Featurette: “Man On The Move: Jason Bourne.”
3 Additional Featurettes: “New York Chase,” “Planning The Punches,” And “Rooftop Pursuit.”
Deleted Scenes.
Considering the plot of this Bourne movie was strong and as the picture and sound quality were solid, it is a no-brainer to purchase this release. I highly recommend this one!
