Comments: For this release Universal went with a VC-1 encode on to an HD30 disc. For the most part this transfer looks great. The film grain is kept in check and the image is sharp. In many of the brighter/outdoors scenes the image "pops" and is very vibrant. Skin-tones were spot-on and I saw no hint of noise or macroblocking.
As far as AQ goes, I listened using the Dolby TrueHD option and it sounded good. The Center Channel presented the dialog in a clear and powerful manner and the Left and Right Channels received consistent action. Even the surrounds received a fair amount of use. The LFE too was used, albeit in a more discreet manner.
There are some nice Special Features included with this release. Here is what is included:
Web-Enabled: Only On HD DVD - Get connected and sign up now to download the exclusive "Bridge Stunt" and "Bamboo Fight" featurettes, plus trailers and updates directly to your HD DVD player.
Deleted Scenes
Alternate Ending
Balls Out: The Making of Balls Of Fury
Under the Balls: The Life of a Ball Wrangler
In conclusion, I found myself laughing a lot during this film, which was a pleasant surprise. I felt this film was VERY funny and entertaining. The PQ and AQ were solid and the Special Features were fun. I highly recommend this purchase!
